Last night while some of America was eating dinner, talking on the phone, playing video games, TWEETING each other, or whatever else they do at 9:11pm (EST) the world population went from 6,796,352,430 to 6,796,352,429.
John Allen Muhammad was executed by lethal injection in the state of Virginia. Muhammad was the major suspect involved in the DC Sniper Shooting along with Lee Boyd Malvo who at the time was a minor. According to some of the reports (at the time of capture) Malvo stated he was forced. But this post in not about that. What it is about is the many comments, post, and statements made before, during, and after the execution.
This execution has sparked many conversations and debates across America. As for me I am 50/50 about the whole deal. Realistically there was nothing I could do to prevent it because minds were already made up when he was captured. And this was because he was caught in the state of Virginia known to be one state where blacks are still treated like second class citizens in some cases.
I like many others (not too many others) were more conscious about the fact that I needed to be mindful of where I was at during the time he and Malvo were being looked for. But I also remember how some of the Police force reacted during that time too. In some ways it was like the movie
“Surviving the Game“:
Now this is not to say I wanted him to get away but it is to say that the mindset of some law enforcement personnel was just like this…
“We bout to hunt Nigger“
and you know it’s true!!!
In the end they caught their men. So 50% is on that you commited the crime so you have to suffer the consequences.
But the other 50% of me feels like executing him does not bring back the lives taken. Accroding to one of the victims mother his execution doesn’t not bring closure to her life. And you still have Charles Manson living and he has been on death row since when?
And regardless of how long it took for the decision to be made to execute him (or shall I say the action) he was doomed the minute they caught him. So here I am thinking to myself was executing him the lesser of two evils? I mean life in prison meant he was on the taxpayers dime and as hard as it is out here today to keep a dime…But ultimately he would have perished in jail. Not that he didn’t perish last night but I am just feeling like the powers that be (or shall we call them the abusers of authority) were trying to make some sort of statement.
Now some can argue the points but it really doesn’t change the fact that he was already caught and had no real chance at ever being free again. Not only was he physically caught but he was mentally caught also. I believe I heard it mentioned he was suffering from “Agent Orange“. And if this was the case then what happened to him recieving some form help from the military he served in?
Aw snap…great segway into my next post…
Just a small thought to everyone…doesn’t matter what side of the fence you sit on with this particular subject the question is raised NOW…
- What satisfaction did you really get by him being executed?
- What if it was one of your loved ones facing the same outcome, would you thoughts and actions be different?
- Do you know what you think and/or have said about it (especially if it was negative) you ultimately have to answer for that?
Karma is definately lurking in this. As for me I can only pray he made peace with the lost souls and the creator because in the end he was going to meet up with them.
MARINATE ON THAT….
